Airplane Beauty Ritual

Greetings, my friends!

Little Background:
For starters, I posted my first airplane beauty ritual back in 2012, but it's changed a bit since then. So this is my updated streamlined ritual that I do every time I'm on a flight over 3 hours. I hope you all find this helpful.

Before the airport:
I never wear make-up to the airport. I don't see the point since I'm just going to take it off when I get on the plane. Plus I don't care what people think of my no make-up appearance in the security line and at the gate.

Water:
My first rule of flying is - Water! Water! Water! The air on airplanes is very drying. So I drink a lot of water before and during my flight. I think drinking water before, during, and after a flight is the most important beauty trick for healthy skin.

Ritual:
Once I take my seat I immediately put down the seat back tray and pull out my airplane toiletry bag, which contains:

- Several Hair Ties
- A Head Band (I'm a big fan of Sweaty Bands)
- 5 x Cotton Ovals
- Travel Size Bottle of Bioderma Laboratories Sensibo H2O
- Dermalogica's Multivitamin Hand and Nail Treatment
- A Pot of either Dermalogica's Skin Hydrating Masque or Sisley's Black Rose Cream Mask
- Face Moisturizer (whatever I'm using that week)
- SPF (again, whatever I'm using that week)
- Eye Moisturizer (whatever I'm using that week)
- A Plastic Snack Bag (I use this for trash)
- Larger Plastic Bag (I use this for my compression socks at the end of the flight)
- Hand Sanitizer
- Bacterial Wipes
- Travel Size Mirror
- Compression Socks
- Eye Mask
- Lip Moisturizer (whatever I'm using that week)
- Kerastase Elixir Ultime Nourishing Oil

I always wiped down the seat back tray with anti-bacterial wipes. I was once on a flight from Ohio to Washington, and I saw someone change their baby on one of these trays. I get they had to do what they had to do, but....well...since then I always wipe down the seat tray to be on the safe side.

Then I pull out all of my items and start. I tie my hair back into a low pony tail, and then put my headband on to keep my hair out of my face. I choose products that do not have a scent or have a very subtle scent to not upset my fellow travelers. I wet a cotton round with Bioderma Laboratories Sensibo H2O and run it all over my face until my face is clean.

Once my face is clean, I then apply a hydrating mask to my face - such as Dermalogica's Skin Hydrating Masque or Sisley's Black Rose Cream Mask. I'm partial to using Dermalogica's masque because it's completely clear and just makes my face look a bit shiny while it hydrates. But if I'm on a long long-haul flight (like DC to Paris), then I might use the Sisley mask - which does have a slight pink tint to it. After I apply the mask, I leave it on until about an hour before we land. In the meantime I apply and reapply my hand moisturizer as often as I can and then put on my compression socks. Next I put on a nice thick lip moisturizer. I finish my running some of the Kerastase Elixir Ultime Nourishing Oil through my hair (focusing on my ends). Then I put my hair into a quick braid, and I'm done. In total - this takes about 5 minutes and I don't have to worry about doing anything again until the end of the flight.

A lot of people have asked me if people stare at me while I am going through my airplane ritual, and the answer is yes. People look at me while I'm doing this as they try to find their seats, but I don't care. Taking care of my skin is my own form of meditation and if a few strangers stare then whatever - it's worth it to make sure my skin survives the harsh environment of an airplane cabin.

I drink lots of water on the flight. I also tend to bring my own food since so much of what they have on flights is loaded with sodium (and I don't want to bloat). I can't sleep on flights, but I do try to rest. So I put on my eye mask and try to rest as best I can, but as we approach the destination I start my final steps.

About an hour out, I take out my airplane bag and remove the mask with the Bioderma. Once my skin is completely clean, I use my eye moisturizer, face moisturizer, and SPF. Then I put on another thick layer of lip moisturizer.

Once we land, I take off my socks while we're taxiing to the terminal and put them in the large plastic bag and stuff them back into my carry-on, and then I'm done.

Before I started taking care of my skin during flights, I noticed my skin felt "froggy" with a build up of oil. I would almost always get a pimple after I landed, and I hated feeling like I didn't have control of my skin. So I started doing my little airplane skincare ritual on flights and my skin has been awesome ever since.

I'm not sure if any of you have an airplane ritual, but I'd love to hear about it. Please leave me a comment below. Or if you haven't created an airplane ritual, then I hope this helps you see how simple it can be and how great it can be for your skin. :)

I hope this helps. :)

Review: 6 Different SokoGlam Sheet Masks

Greetings, my friends! Bottom Line  - I would buy almost every mask again with the exception of the E-Nature mask. E-Nature: Per SokoGlam.com, E-Nature was founded on the principle of creating breakthrough formulas for your skin by fusing cutting-edge Korean technology with the safest and most effective natural ingredients. E-Nature's Squeeze Green Watery Sheet Mask: This mask was "okay." It's a cotton mask soaked in watery essence (not goo) which felt nice and cool on my face, but I didn't see any difference other than that it slightly hydrated my skin. It's meant to treat excess sebum, but I didn't notice a difference either. This costs $2.50, but I don't think I'll buy it again. Klavuu: Per SokoGlam.com, Klavuu is Korea's first marine pearl cosmetic brand that infuses natural pearl, essential oils, and marine plant extracts into their signature formulas. Natural pearls will enrich, hydrate, and firm the skin, for the most ra...

Review: Dermalogica's Oil Free Matte SPF 30

Greetings, my friends! Bottom Line  - this is a great matte daytime lotion which I think is worth a try for someone looking for a new lotion. Dermalogica : Dermalogica is an American skincare company founded by Jane and Rey Wurwand in 1986. However, before the first Dermalogica products were made - in 1983, Jane, a U.K. trained skin therapist, opened "The International Dermal Institute" for licensed skin therapists to teach hands-on postgraduate level skincare training. Realizing there weren't products on the market which matched what she was teaching, Jane and Rey established Dermalogica. They decided they wanted a p roduct line free of common irritants and ingredients which they felt led to breakouts, such as lanolin, SD alcohol, mineral oil, artificial colors, and fragrances - and that's exactly what they ended up creating.
