Review: Dermalogica's Overnight Clearing Gel

 Bottom Line - this is my favorite acne gel. It works like a charm every time, and it's very gentle. 

 Dermalogica:
Dermalogica is an American skincare company founded by Jane and Rey Wurwand in 1986. However, before the first Dermalogica products were made - in 1983, Jane, a U.K. trained skin therapist, opened "The International Dermal Institute" for licensed skin therapists to teach hands-on postgraduate level skincare education. Realizing there weren't products on the market which matched what she was teaching, Jane and Rey established Dermalogica. They created a product line free of common irritants and ingredients which they felt led to breakouts, such as lanolin, SD alcohol, mineral oil, artificial colors, and fragrances.

 Dermalogica Overnight Clearing Gel:
This is my favorite acne treatment gel. It's active ingredient is salicylic acid (which treats the acne), but it also has tea tree oil (which acts as an antiseptic agent to soothe skin), meadowsweet (which inhibits breakout-causing bacteria and helps produce clearer skin), and niacinamide, biotin, zinc gluconate, yeast extract, caffeine, and licorice - which helps to soothe irritation.

 The reason this is my favorite acne treatment is because of how well it works and how gentle it is. Since salicylic acid is a BHA, it penetrates deep into my skin to treat my acne. I prefer it far more than benzoyl peroxide acne treatments (which I have used), but they were too harsh for my skin. (Benzoyl peroxide causes my skin to turn red and to become irritated - which for someone with a hyperpigmentation issue is terrible.) I recommend this treatment for people of all ages - from teenagers to those with mature skin.

 Stats:
This is costly at 1.7oz for $50 (or $29.41 per ounce), but I've had mine for almost 2 years and I still have a lot of it left. The common adage for skincare products is that once its open, it will only be good for 6-to-9 months, but unlike other acne gel's I've tried - this feels as potent today as it did 2 years ago.

I do not recommend buying high-end beauty products from Amazon or eBay. While I love Amazon and eBay and most sellers are legitimate with quality products - beauty products tend to be highly susceptible to fraud. If you're going to spend your hard earned money, make sure you're buying what you think you're buying.
